Ok...let me first tell you the back story

A girl I worked with had mentioned to me her friend's apt(down the hall from hers) was broken into where she lived. I guess there is a group of people that will knock on doors and if no one answers they will put some type of marking visible to them. They mark the doors and return at the exact same time another day or week. If there is a marking they recognize, they will try to break in. Her friends door was marked and so was hers.

So as I was doing laundry tonight...I looked at my door and noticed a pen mark in the door frame. I looked around my floor and every one's frame was marked. I went down stairs and found that the 1st floor was also marked.

They target the first and third floors as the 1st is easiest to get away and if they're on the 3rd floor they'd have look outs to see who is coming up.


I called the non emergency line, mentioned to them the situation and asked them to patrol the area more. Tomorrow first thing I am calling the office. I marked everything and took pictures.

I could not stop thinking about it today at work. I called the office and explained everything. The lady contacted the owner of the property and wanted to know more, so I told her what I had heard. I still might visit the police department this week to see what I can do to dig up some more things and what to look for. There are two different markings one long or one short line. I'm trying to figure out their system. I might ask to have the marks painted over and my door jam fixed.

Maybe I was being over dramatic, but after mulling it over the past two days I called again and explained to them the situation .The dispatcher at the non emergency line called me back and told me that there was already a case open. I guess the manager here had called them yesterday to come out. I was still uneasy as to what to do, so she had the officer that took the call yesterday call me so I could talk to him. He eased my mind a little and said the manager mentioned she was going to have them painted over. I have a door alarm ,that makes one hell of a noise, to set when I'm gone...at least that gives me an eased piece of mind.

That's still really fricking scary... I wouldn't want anybody breaking into my shit either.

I'd be setting booby traps and stuff. HOME ALONE!

lmfao...funny you should say that....that was immediately the first thought that came in my head once I saw them. Unfortunately, no one has painted over them yet, so if nothing is done by next week, I'm gonna ask if not I'm gonna do it. I hate when people say they're gonna do something and not do it.

make your own markings over theirs---- they may think its a rival gang or something

lmfao...my manager told me to draw a stick person out of it and then a bubble like it's talking....either HI! or I know what you're up to....lol I might just have to...or I can see you! I leave my TV on and bought a timer for my light.

*update*

so the property manager lied to my face when I turned my rent check in today. she said the marks were painted over and they're still there. so I did my civil duty and painted over them. I'll have to run down the hall later this week and do the others. she said she talked to peeps on each floor and told them to be aware and asked me to be on the look out too.

I now leave my TV on loud enough so you can hear it from the hallway and have a timer for my lights to go on before I come home.

Good for you, painting over it though!

So its been near a month and I have seen some odd things looking around my building. It looks as though someone has been messing with the actual door frames to an extent of them coming somewhat away from the wall. Instead of painting over the rest of the marks on the other floor and down the hall, I took alcohol to the frames and the pen marks disappeared as though they weren't there. I will for sure continue to watch for things around here considering the holiday season and now me being home during the week more often.
